About Me

My name is Allison Heinrich. I am a native of Houston, Texas and graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with degrees in Philosophy and Journalism, as well as a minor in Government. I was a Senior Fellow within the College of Communication, and served as an inaugurate member of that advisory council. I’m a member of Phi Beta Kappa and an alumna of a damn good political program. On a lighter note, please note sarcasm is my native language and my blood is equal parts craft beer and scotch.

I served as Campaign Manager for an Austin City Council race right out of college, and am lucky enough to continue to work in politics. It’s my second love, right after basketball. I intend to work in campaigns, policy advocacy, or as a staffer to an elected official for the foreseeable future. At some point I’d love to go back to grad school or law school.

What do I write about? As Molly Ivins said Texas politics is the finest form of free entertainment ever invented. Still true — and there’s always plenty to say about the Lege even on the quietest of days. You’ll know when it’s in session when your local liquor store is suddenly devoid of bourbon. As someone masquerading as an Austinite I also care about Austin City Council and the lovely bit of bureaucracy that is our council-manager government. Lately, I’ve even been getting into the Commissioner’s Court drama–five people setting policy that affects millions is uh fascinating. So politics mainly. Also, books. And cooking.
